Bridal or Engagement Shoot

Bridal Edition : 8/9/2006

Pre-wedding bridal shoots have been around since your mother got married. This is when the bride tries on her dress complete with accessories and flowers and takes pictures. Doing this can allow the bride to completely envision her look and allay any fears about the overall presentation.

It also gives the bride something to show at the reception or for her to use on her favors. Here are some things to consider for your bridal shoot.

  • Wear your hair exactly as you plan to wear it the day of your wedding.
  • Have your florist make you a mock bouquet that resembles your own exactly.
  • Use the same photographer for this shoot that you will use for your wedding day.
  • Experiment with different poses that you want to try the day of your wedding.
  • Display the picture at your wedding or reception. This adds a nice touch.

Engagement Photography shoots work exactly the same way and are becoming increasingly popular. The only difference between engagement photography and pre-bridal photography is the style and the clothing.

For engagements bride and groom are both present, and they usually wear something that defines them, not that defines the wedding, i.e. bridal gown or tuxedo. Some photographers encourage all black attire so the faces are the focus, while others encourage more of a relaxed environment. No matter what the preference, you should try and find something that works for you. Ask the photographer about adding things such as a picnic scene or even taking pictures with a pet, which may be an added touch.

Remember the pictures and wedding are yours, make sure you personalize it at every turn!
