Many couples use their reception to really have fun and incorporate their personalities into the wedding. Of course, you don't have to be that extreme, but here are some ideas and considerations you will want to make as you plan your reception.
What themes should we consider? Depending on the kind of wedding you will have themes can definitely range.
- Honeymoon theme. You can decorate your reception site with elements of your honeymoon destination. This is barring the possibility that the groom plans to surprise the bride with the honeymoon destination.
- Our first date. You can decorate the reception with memories of your first date. Any mementoes can be incorporated into the centerpiece and other décor around the reception site.
- Our favorite television show, sports team, hobby, etc. If you share a hobby with your partner, using this kind of theme can definitely add some fun to the event.
How do we entertain the guests while they wait for us to arrive? If your guests are not well acquainted, the wait time between you arriving at the reception site from the wedding site can be a valuable time to mingle. You can consider the following:
- Try a seating arrangement. Place certain family members by ones they are less acquainted with. Have them introduce themselves to one another and then introduce that person to one more person he or she doesn’t know.
- Have your guests mingle in an in-between space. For most, when the reception begins, guests will be eager to sit and partake in the meal. Why not offer a space where there can be small appetizers and light socializing before the main event?
