How To Plan A Wedding Shower

Bridal Edition : 8/20/2006

The following are some simple steps and considerations you will need to make when planning a wedding shower:

  • Who’s on the guest list? Generally, you should only invite people to the shower who are invited to the wedding. You will not want the awkwardness of inviting someone who feels left out or generally uninvolved in the event.

  • Location, location, location. If you are planning an intimate event, homes or small gathering rooms are fine. However, if many will be attending, you will want something large enough to accommodate all.

  • It's all about the timing. Most showers happen in the afternoon so be mindful of that as you plan.

  • Will this be a couple's shower or a shower just for her or him? This, of course, will determine what kinds of gifts guests should bring and what your theme might be.

  • Select a theme. Themes are always good ways to reign in the gift giving. It is also fun to see the guests’ interpretation of the theme with their gifts. However, be sure that the theme has range, such as "Kitchen, Bath and Beyond". A theme of this nature will leave room for many selections. You don’t want the couple getting too much of the same thing.

  • Let the games begin! Have fun and interesting games that will liven your party.

You will need to make special considerations as needed, but these general guidelines should get you started on your way to planning a memorable day.
