Horror Stories

Avoid purchasing items like a vegetable tray. This is a common mistake. Most people will purchase a vegetable tray, few people will eat it, and most will be thrown away at the end of the function. Try adding vegetable bruschetta, stuffed mushrooms, or stuffed cherry tomatoes in place of a standard vegetable tray..

Consider having an action station at your event. They are food stations where a chef will prepare the guest’s food to order. These stations may be more costly but they will draw a large crowd, add ambience to the party, and make the event more memorable Some popular action stations are the pasta or fajita stations.

Pass out hors d'oeuvres before the bride and groom arrive. Guest may wait up to an hour before the bride and groom arrive at the wedding reception. Since it is considered impolite to feast on the buffet before the bride and groom arrives, passing out hors d'oeuvres help to ease a crowd and quiet young children. Fried foods, or ones with higher quantities of carbohydrates, will satisfy your guests’ hunger pangs, causing them to eat less of the buffet, and ultimately save you money.

Be honest about your guest count. Always assume the highest possible guest count. If more people show up than you expected, the food may run out, causing all of your guests to be unhappy.

Save money by buying your own liquor when possible. If you have the option, buy your wine and liquor from a local liquor store. Most liquor stores will provide a discount if you buy in bulk. Also, if you buy too much they will generally allow you to return it for a full refund. Avoid purchasing alcohol packages such as $10 per person per hour. At this rate all your guests would have to drink at least 8 drinks in a four hour reception. If that were to happen, how many people do you think would be legally allowed to drive?
